Sometimes the task of choosing which records to display on a school record board can be a little daunting, particularly for sports that don't have specific events like track and swimming. Our customers are often unsure about which records they should keep for each sport. Fall sports can be particularly difficult. Problems range from sports such as football having too many stats, to sports like cross country that seems like it may not have enough to fill a record board.

The goal of this article is to give you a starting point for what records to display on your athletic record boards. Beyond this list, we encourage coaches to decide what records are most important to them and most impactful to their program. After all, a record board should not only be used as way preserve your school's athletic history, but to motivate your current athletes to strive for their very best. This is the first installment of a three part series, divided by season.

Football Record Board

TEAM Scoring Average - Season Points Against Average - Season Margin of Victory - Season

INDIVIDUAL Rushing Yards - Game Rushing Yards - Season Rushing Yards - Career Passing Yards - Game Passing Yards - Season Passing Yards - Career Receiving Yards - Game Receiving Yards - Season Receiving Yards - Career Most Points - Season Most Points - Career Tackles - Season Tackles - Career Sacks - Season Sacks - Career Interceptions - Season Interceptions - Career Most PAT - Season Most PAT - Career Longest Field Goal Longest Kick Return Longest Punt Return

It is important to note that we don't typically suggest including game records for some of these different sports because there can often be a tie between three or more players. This can make it difficult, to impossible, to fit all the record holders on the board. However, depending on how outstanding your school records are, you may want to include them.

Cross Country Record Board

Typically the best way to display cross country records is by listing top-ten times. Another option we recommend, is to display the top-five times in each of the following categories:

OVERALL Wins – Season Wins – Career Best Record – Season Best Record – Career Most Aces – Season Most Aces – Career

SINGLES Wins – Season Wins – Career Best Record – Season Best Record – Career

DOUBLES Wins – Season Wins – Career Best Record – Season Best Record – Career

Always consult with your record board provider on what type of record board is best for you. Of course whatever records you choose to display will motivate individual team members, impress fans and preserve your program's athletic legacy for years to come.
